Quarter at Sea on the Golden BearThe College of Science and Mathematics has partnered with the California Maritime Academy to allow Cal Poly students to be a part of the Academy's spring training cruise aboard the Golden Bear. Accompanied by Cal Poly faculty members, students on this two-month cruise take courses and engage in research while traveling to places such as Costa Rica, Peru, Chile, Fiji, Hawaii and Australia. Unique Academic ProgramsCal Poly is the only campus in the CSU system to offer a bachelor's degree in Ecology and Systematic Biology, and is one of only two campuses to offer an undergraduate degree in Statistics. Students preparing for a career in biotechnology can choose to complete a Biotechnology Minor, and Chemistry students can select a concentration in Polymers and Coatings--both programs not found at most CSU or UC campuses. Experiential and Service LearningA variety of cooperative education experiences in industry and other internship programs allow Science and Mathematics students to apply what they have learned while gaining real-world experience away from campus. There are special internship programs for students interested in the health professions, as well as opportunities for students to further their education in combination with community service.
