Inclusion and Equity Fund

About the Fund

During academic year 2019-20, the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM) established an inclusion and equity fund to support the objectives of the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity.

Funding is again available this year. COVID-19 can't stop the very important learning and work associated with equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice!

The fund provides support for events or activities that fulfill the mission, vision, and objectives of the CSM Inclusion and Equity Committee.

How to Apply

Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit a proposal.

  • Proposals must be received and approved during the academic year in which the funds will be used.

  • Proposed projects, programs, or events must comply with Cal Poly Campus and SLO County policies.

  • Submit proposals a minimum of four weeks prior to the project, program, or event to allow the committee time to receive and review them.

Members of the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity will review proposals on a rolling basis and notify you of acceptance status within two weeks of submission.

Frequently Asked Questions (last updated October 6, 2020)

Do events/activities need to happen on-campus?

Events do not have to happen on campus, but they must align with one or more of the objectives of the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity and adhere to all appropriate campus and SLO county policies for event scheduling and facility use.

How does COVID-19 impact events/activities?

Events/activities should adhere to current campus, county, and state public health guidelines. Please visit www.coronavirus.calpoly.edu or www.readyslo.org for additional information.

Is there a specific timeline for spending money provided by the fund?

Any money from this fund must be expended by the end of the current fiscal year.

Do submitters need to be connected to the college of science and mathematics (CSM) or do the event/activity need to be co-sponsored/supported by an organization in CSM prior to asking for funding?

CSM welcomes submissions from any faculty, staff or students at Cal Poly. It would be especially compelling if the requestor is collaborating with faculty, staff or students from CSM. Moreover, all submissions must have a clear connection to meeting the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives for the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity.

Does the activity need to engage with CSM faculty/staff/students in some way and/or address science/mathematics in some way?

Events or activities must align with the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives of the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity.

Is there a max amount of a single request?

The CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity will keep track of all requests and endeavor to distribute the fund throughout the year.

How many times can submitters submit per year, if they are previously funded via this source?

The CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity will give priority to first time requesters when reviewing applications to the fund. The fund is currently limited to a total of $25,000.00 for the current fiscal year.

Can funding support a series of activities rather than a one-off event?

Yes…if the series of activities or one-off event align with the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives of the CSM Committee for Inclusion and Equity. There is room in the application form for the requestor to describe the scope of the event, program or activity for which they are requesting support from the fund.
