Mathematics Alumna Named New Elementary School Principal

Shannon Garcia (B.S. Math, 1997) was named the new principal of El Rincon Elementary School in Culver City, Calif.

Garcia was unanimously selected by the Culver City Unified School District Board of Education on Aug. 3 to serve in the position, according to the Culver City Observer, a weekly newspaper in Los Angeles County. She previously held the position of principal of Bobier Elementary School in the Vista Unified School District.

El Rincon is a kindergarten through 5th-grade school with more than 550 students.

She told the Culver City Observer, “A mathematics graduate from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, I am a STEM advocate and am excited and proud to serve the El Rincon Elementary community where I will continue to support the innovative, whole-child, STEM-infused education for our kids.”
