Inclusion and Equity Fund

About the Fund 

During academic year 2019-20, the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics established an inclusion and equity fund to support the objectives of the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity.  

Funding continues to be available each year to support the important learning and work associated with equity, inclusion, diversity and social justice! 

 The fund provides support for events or activities that fulfill the mission, vision, and objectives of the Bailey College Inclusion and Equity Committee.  

How to Apply

Faculty, staff and students are invited to submit a proposal.

  • Proposals must be received and approved during the academic year in which the funds will be used. 

  • Proposed projects, programs, or events must comply with Cal Poly Campus and San Luis Obispo County policies. 

  • Submit proposals a minimum of four weeks prior to the project, program, or event to allow the committee time to receive and review them. 

Members of the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity will review proposals on a rolling basis and notify you of acceptance status within two weeks of submission.

Do events/activities need to happen on-campus?

Events do not have to happen on campus, but they must align with one or more of the objectives of the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity and adhere to all appropriate campus and San Luis Obispo County policies for event scheduling and facility use.

Is there a specific timeline for spending money provided by the fund?

Any money from this fund must be expended by the end of the current fiscal year.

Do submitters need to be connected to the Bailey College of Science and Mathematics? Or does the event/activity need to be co-sponsored/supported by an organization in the Bailey College prior to asking for funding?

The Bailey College welcomes submissions from any faculty, staff, or students at Cal Poly. It would be especially compelling if the requestor is collaborating with faculty, staff, or students from the Bailey College. Moreover, all submissions must have a clear connection to meeting the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives for the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity.

Does the activity need to engage with Bailey College faculty, staff and/or students in some way and/or address science/mathematics in some way?

Events or activities must align with the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives of the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity.

Is there a max amount of a single request?

The Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity will keep track of all requests and endeavor to distribute the funds throughout the year.

How many times can submitters submit per year, if they are previously funded via this source? 

The Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity will give priority to first time requesters when reviewing applications to the fund. The fund is currently limited to a total of $30,000.00 for the current fiscal year.

Can funding support a series of activities rather than a one-off event?

Yes — if the series of activities or one-off event align with the vision, mission, values and one or more of the objectives of the Bailey College Committee for Inclusion and Equity. There is room in the application form for the requestor to describe the scope of the event, program, or activity for which they are requesting support from the fund.

Can funding be used for gift cards?

The fund is from a CSU (state account). Expenditures need to adhere to current campus guidelines for expenditures of this type of fund. 

Can students or others be paid based on funding?

The Bailey College is not a granting agency or foundation. This fund is not designed to provide opportunities for hiring student assistants or others for research, scholarly and creative activities. It may be used to fund a guest lecturer, reserve a facility, or purchase equipment for events/activities.

Can funding be utilized to support travel to equity and inclusion workshops, conferences, etc.?

The Bailey College is not a granting agency or foundation. This fund is not currently designed to support travel to equity and inclusion workshops, conferences, etc. It may be used to fund a guest lecturer, reserve a facility, or purchase equipment for events/activities.
