Christina Bailey Learning Terrace
A Special Space Inspired by a Special Person
With the completion and opening of the Frost Center, another very meaningful space was unveiled. Located on the Frost Center’s second level rooftop garden is the Christina Bailey Learning Terrace.
The outdoor terrace is dedicated to Christina (Tina) Bailey, former Chemistry Department chair and professor and late wife of Dean Emeritus Phil Bailey (shown in above photo).
Tina’s legacy as an researcher and educator in chemistry and pharmacology at Cal Poly for more than 40 years and, as a woman in STEM, was a pioneer in her field, paving the way for others unjustly marginalized.
She received national recognition for her development of the studio classroom model where “lecture” and “laboratory” are integrated. Tina’s vision for creating unique educational spaces made for a fitting dedication of the green roof with space for planting and opportunities for outdoor learning with a stunning scenic backdrop of Bishop Peak. The Christina Bailey Learning Terrace is a sanctuary for students, faculty and visitors to connect and collaborate in a relaxed and picturesque setting.
