New Marine Sciences Major Welcomes First Students
The Biological Sciences Department now offers a bachelor’s degree in marine sciences. The program welcomed its first group of about 60 majors this fall. More than 400 prospects applied for the degree program, which includes extensive experienced-based learning.
The interdisciplinary nature of the degree allows students to focus in marine biology, chemistry, oceanography or engineering of marine instrumentation. Cal Poly’s location and facilities, including the Cal Poly Pier, provide ideal support for a marine program.
Graduates will be prepared to take jobs with government agencies such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, pursue a graduate degree, or enter a number of marine-related fields, such as scientific diving.
