Letter from Dean Wendt - Fall 2017
Since becoming dean in July, I’ve enjoyed seeing the College of Science and Mathematics from a new perspective. I’ve been part of the college since arriving as a transfer student in biology in 1989. In 2002, I returned to San Luis Obispo as a professor and have also served as associate dean of the college, director of the Center for Coastal Marine Sciences, and dean of research for the university.
I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity to give back to the university that helped me find my path in the world and honored to have been chosen as dean.
As we move forward, student success will continue to be the foundation of all we do in the college. We will build on this tradition by increasing undergraduate research experiences and turning our expertise outward to engage the community, industry and government. In these areas, our students will Learn by Doing through study abroad programs, industry internships and research projects that make a positive impact on society.
I look forward to getting to know many of you and reconnecting with others. If you’re visiting San Luis Obispo, please stop by the Dean’s Office or your Department Office. We’d love to hear where life has taken you.
