Letter from Dean Bailey - Spring 2017

Dean Bailey

As you probably know by now, this is my final letter as dean. It’s been a wonderful 48 years thanks to you — the students, alumni, faculty and staff of the College of Science and Mathematics.

When I arrived in 1969 as a 26-year-old assistant professor, I never imagined I’d one day be dean. I hadn’t even visited the campus before accepting the job.

I’ve been so fortunate over the years to be involved in the Cal Poly community in so many ways, from teaching, to building projects, to supporting the women’s basketball team, to helping all students — especially those in greatest need. Through it all, it’s the relationships we’ve built that have meant the most to me.

I’m not completely retiring. For the next several years I’ll be director of the Frost Fund. I’m looking forward to getting to know the Frost Scholars and helping our undergraduate research program grow into one of the best in the country.

Thank you for all the really special memories. Cal Poly is the best place I could have asked for to spend my career.

Please keep in touch. Even when I’m not dean, I’ll still enjoy hearing what you’ve been up to.
