Letter from Dean Bailey - Winter 2017
Student-faculty research is at the heart of what we do in the College of Science and Mathematics. There’s no better way for students to discover science and mathematics than by working closely with faculty mentors on real-world research projects.
Their learning doesn’t end with technical expertise in the lab. As you’ll read in this issue, students go on to present successfully at professional conferences and co-author peer-reviewed papers. This experience teaches them communication skills and builds their confidence, both of which are essential for professional success.
Our students are the reason the new undergraduate research facility we’re building is so important. It will increase the space dedicated to student-faculty research and give so many more students the opportunity to Learn by Doing in this truly transformative way.
Now is the time to add your support to this project. The architects will begin drawing plans in June, and our fundraising must be complete by then. Gifts of all sizes will make this a better facility and inspire other donors.
Email me with questions, read more about the building, or give now. Together, we can create one of the top undergraduate research programs in the country.
Thank you for your support of this project and for everything you’ve done for Cal Poly.
