Letter from Dean Bailey - Winter 2016
I want to tell you about what’s really exciting to me right now: a new student-faculty research building that will be built right across from the Baker Center. In this newsletter, you’ll read about current undergraduate research projects — a new desalination membrane, a product to clean up oil spills — that are great examples of what could happen in the new building.
We’re going to break ground in 2018. That’s right around the corner, and we need your help to do it.
Thanks to a generous donor, most of the funding for this building is secured, but the college needs to raise an additional $5 million. Your support is critical in making this building a reality. Every gift makes a difference, no matter what size. Every gift shows other potential donors that you believe in your university and in undergraduate research. Every gift brings us closer to moving in during 2020.
Please consider contributing to the science and mathematics facilities in the new building. You know how important close student-faculty relationships are because you had those experiences at Cal Poly. You can give future students a fantastic opportunity to work with faculty mentors on real-world research projects. Gifts of all sizes will make a difference.
If you have any questions about the building, read more online, send me an email, or give me a call at 805-756-2226. I’m always happy to talk about the importance of student-faculty research.
